Social Justice Children's Book Drive

A book drive to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

We wanted to do something really special to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy this year. So Monday January 14th through Sunday January 27th (the week leading up to, and the week after MLK Day) we are hosting a social justice children's book drive to benefit Estelita's Library.

Estelita's Library is a social justice focused nonprofit library in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. It's been opened about 9 months, and is a community gathering space right off of the light rail station filled with books that discuss social justice, race, class, politics and the history of oppressed peoples. Folks pay what they can on a sliding scale for membership and then can check out a book for two weeks at a time. We are excited to help gather more books for their children's section!

Please bring in a children's book either written by a person of color, or featuring a person of color protagonist. It can be new or used! All shops will have book drop baskets, and if you let your scooper know you donated, you'll get a free topping or waffle cone per donation!

Elliott Bay Book Company is partnering with us, and will have a display of suggested books in their children's book area!

I Love You More Than... by Taye Diggs

If you can't make it to a shop in the next couple of weeks, but would like to donate, you can make an online purchase and have it shipped to us.

Mailing address: 1122 E Pike Street, #1448, Seattle WA 98122.

Other ways we'll be celebrating MLK Day on Monday January 21st.

MLK Day March

Our mooncrew will be gathering at Garfield High School for the rally at 11am and the march to Westlake at 12:30pm on Monday January 21st. We'd love for you to join us! We'll also be scooping at the community meal after the march.

Donating 10% of all shop sales on MLK Day to Africatown

In honor of this day we are donating 10% of sales from all of our shops to Africatown’s Center for Education and Innovation (ACEI). ACEI addresses the educational crisis of African American students within the Seattle Public School District by providing a culturally responsive learning community that fosters hope, resilience and academic achievement.
