a letter to customers from our founder and ceo

a note and update from molly

March 18, 2020

dearest molly moon’s fans,

i first want to say a big thank you to each of you for visiting us and supporting us always. we hope to be able to scoop you ice cream for years to come! in this very unsettling time we hope that you and your loved ones are remaining healthy and safe, and finding joy where you can. in light of the current crisis we have made many changes at molly moon’s, and while things may continue to change, as of today, our plan of action is laid out below. if you are able, we would appreciate your support and business in these trying times.

we are still open every day from 2pm to 9pm

while all restaurants and food service businesses are closed for in-person dining, take-out and delivery is still allowed and the King County health department says businesses should and can remain open, provided they observe COVID-19 prevention measures. our shops have always been a place where you can grab a quick scoop to-go or pints to take home. we are following all government and health recommendations and hope that we can bring you and your family a little scoop of joy during this unsettling time. i know for me and my little girls, daily walks for a treat are making a big difference.

remaining open means we can continue employing a portion of our staff and paying health insurance for EVERY employee who is currently on our plan, even for those who’ve been temporarily laid off. this will hopefully ensure molly moon’s remains a part of our community in the future. you can currently visit any of our molly moon’s locations and order off of our regular menu, including takeaway pints. we will be asking you to use social distancing in shops (6 feet between household groups) and you will need to either take your ice cream to the comfort of your home or enjoy your scoop out in the fresh air.

extra precautions we’re taking

to take every opportunity to protect you and our mooncrew, we are:

• sanitizing shop surfaces hourly

• washing our hands constantly and between every customer

• eliminating flavor sampling (we love giving out unlimited samples, however we want to mitigate as much contact between our staff and customers as possible)

• providing no contact service (we will place cups on the counter and cones in our cone holders)

• accepting no cash payments (and we ask that you swipe your own card)

• eliminating any non-permanent seating so as to not encourage anyone to linger in the shop and have all doors permanently open to eliminate the need for touching the handles

our hope

being a part of our communities and neighborhoods is one of the things that i cherish most about molly moon’s. if you feel compelled to continue supporting our business we will appreciate it more than you know. our hope is that by doing so, you will help keep some of our employees on payroll through this uncertain time, which will make it possible for us to bounce back when this is all over. we hope that we can also ensure other businesses in our communities survive this - to see what we've been doing to lobby every level of government and support our small business community, and what more you can do to help those efforts, you can read our latest blog post.

some big ways you can help today:

• walk to one of our shops

• get us delivered to your home with Postmates, DoorDash and soon on Caviar

• we’re not just ice cream (and waffle cones and toppings)! please consider buying gift cards or merchandise online.

• you can also pick up our minimoons in a variety of flavors from your local markets, PCC and Metropolitan Market (also on instacart)

• subscribe to our social media to continue to get updates on ways ice cream can make you happy: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

one of my favorite quotes is from Don Kardong, “without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos.” i find myself in these days realizing for the first time in my life that ice cream alone can’t save us from the darkness or chaos. but it is still offering a bright, joyful spot to me, my daughters, and everyone on the mooncrew. i hope ice cream can make you happy in these dark days, too.

sending much love to all of you.

stay safe and take care of yourselves,

molly moon
