It's National Voter Registration Day! Here are a few things on this year's ballot worth registering for!
Mayor of Seattle
| There are two candidates in the Seattle mayoral race: Bruce Harrell, a former Seattle City Council President, and Lorena Gonzalez, the current Seattle City Council President. Both have worked hard on solving homelessness, police reform and other important issues in our city. But neither has been able to make the changes most Seattleites are hoping to see. Read about both of them to make an informed decision! Here are a couple videos to get you started: Bruce Harrell at the Cloud Room Lorena Gonzalez at the Cloud Room |
King County Executive
Elected officials at the county level oversee things like metro and public transportation including bus routes and costs of transit. They oversee the prosecutor’s and sheriff’s office, superior courts, and juvenile detention. The incumbent is Dow Constantine. His first real challenger in many years is Sen. Joe Nguyen.

City Council
| City Council passes policies affecting the city of Seattle - where most of us live. They passed the $15 minimum wage law for example. They passed paid sick and safe time and secure scheduling. During COVID they could provide grants to small businesses, make getting outdoor seating permits easier and enacted an eviction moratorium. COVID protocols were also under their purview including the vaccine roll-out and mask mandates.
There are a handful of candidates who have filed for the Seattle city elections this year. Here is a great resource to learn more about each of their mission statements: Seattle City Council Insight. |
City Attorney for Seattle
| City attorney supervises a team of assistant city attorneys who provide legal advice and assistance to the city’s management and prosecute violation of city ordinances. For example, current city attorney reduced prosecutions of DWLS3 (driving while license suspended) otherwise known as “driving while poor.”
The candidates are Ann Davidson and Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, who really almost couldn’t be farther apart ideologically. This will be a very interesting race and you should find your favorite candidate and make sure to vote in this race!
