Help Fundraise for Asian Counseling and Referral Services' Food Bank!

May is Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month and we are honoring the holiday with Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS).

ACRS, grounded in a commitment to social justice, provides services that advance the health, well-being, dignity and empowerment of Asian and Pacific Islanders and other communities experiencing disparities in health, human services and education.

One of ACRS’s biggest programs, the ACRS Food Bank, is currently one of the only food banks in Washington State that provides foods culturally relevant to Asian American and Pacific Islander diets. This year, ACRS is hoping to raise $250,000 for the food bank through their 32nd Annual Walk for Rice campaign. Molly Moon’s is fundraising $5,000 to support ACRS in reaching their goal — but we need your help!

ANHPI communities disproportionately lack access to food, emergency meals and other basic needs. Twenty six percent of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Hawaiian households in Washington State face food insecurity, according to a research study by the University of Washington, Washington State University and Tacoma Community College.

ACRS Food Bank has been feeding over 5,700 individuals and families in King County every year since 2016. During the pandemic, the need for ACRS' nutrition programs grew 200%. As a response to this, the food bank overhauled its operations and expanded its weekly food bag deliveries from 600 bags to 2,250 bags a week and recently moved into a much larger, newly leased space in the Tsue Chong Building in the Chinatown-International District. This new space, at around 5,500 square feet, allows ACRS to offer clients grocery-style shopping where they can more independently self-select the food they need.

The ACRS Food Bank not only directly feeds individuals and families experiencing hunger, many smaller food bank and affordable housing programs rely on the culturally competent foods that ACRS Food Bank provides to feed their clients. Each week, Mt. Baker Housing delivers enough food bags from the ACRS Food Bank to over 120 households in their resident community.

Without the resources ACRS provides, many families in our community would go hungry. Please help us in supporting the ACRS Food bank by making a donation through our Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream fundraising page for Walk For Rice. Even grain counts and every donation, big and small, makes a difference.
